Hit-and-run accident seriously injures 22-year-old woman

A woman remains in critical condition at a local hospital after being struck by a vehicle during a hit-and-run car accident in Milwaukee on March 15. The 22-year-old was in a crosswalk after midnight when she was hit by a vehicle. The vehicle involved in the Wisconsin car accident did not stop, according to a news report.

Witnesses to the accident describe hearing the car attempt to pick up speed directly before the accident and believe they saw the victim’s body tossed up to 20 feet away from the force of the collision. They also report that the car simply fled the scene without even breaking its speed. An ambulance, which fortuitously appears to have been in the immediate area, was at the site of the crash within moments.

Police are seeking surveillance videos from the surrounding bars in the area, as well as public assistance, to find the driver. They are seeking a dark-colored sedan that may have received damage to its front end. Anyone with information was urged to contact authorities.

Whether or not the woman will make a full recovery remains to be seen. Nevertheless, she will likely be able to take legal action against any negligent party who caused her injuries. His or her alleged negligence and failure to stop and render aid are possibly criminal acts, but he or she may also be held financially liable for her injuries if a court determines that his or her actions were negligent or reckless. The victim and her family may wish to investigate relevant Wisconsin laws and procedures as they determine whether they wish to pursue financial compensation against those deemed responsible for causing this car accident.
