When an individual assumes control of a recreational vehicle, he or she takes on the same level of responsibility as the driver of a traditional car or truck. These responsibilities involve ensuring the safety of others in the area. In addition, operators of recreational vehicles must also ensure that they are alert and aware while in control of the vehicle. The recent arrest of a Wisconsin snowmobile driver following a serious accident demonstrates the manner in which law enforcement approaches the proper use and operation of these types of vehicles.
The accident occurred on Lake Waubesa at around 5 p.m. on a Wednesday in early January. Police believe that a 53-year-old man was driving a snowmobile when he decided to make a sharp turn. That decision led him to lose control of the vehicle. At the time of the crash, he was riding with a female passenger.
Both were rushed to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment. Both sustained head trauma as a result of the crash. There is no information available concerning the severity of the injuries or the prognosis for recovery. As a result of the initial investigation into this crash, police have detained the driver on suspicion of operating the snowmobile while intoxicated. As the investigation continues, additional charges could be filed in the case.
As for the Wisconsin woman who was injured during this accident, she may have a lengthy and difficult recovery ahead of her. Head injuries can bring on a wide range of problems in the months and years following the initial injury, including but not limited to headaches, problems with balance, brain damage and issues with circulation.
