Wisconsin man charged for fatal car accident

An accident occurred last year that claimed the life of a 22-year-old woman. The fatal car accident was allegedly caused by a 28-year-old male driver, who Wisconsin authorities believe may suffer from a mental illness. The man told authorities that demons were chasing him, and he wanted to get away from them.

The accident reportedly occurred when the man was observed driving in a bizarre manner. Before the crash, he drove through a stop sign and then drove in and out of a ditch. After coming out of the ditch, he was trying to pass a semi-truck when he slammed into another vehicle. Authorities obtained blood samples from the man, and it tested positive for marijuana.

When law enforcement questioned the man about the incident, he stated that he was trying to get away from the demons. He has been charged with homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle. In a restraining order filed by the man’s mother, she stated that he is an undiagnosed schizophrenic. He is scheduled to appear in court later this month.

In addition to the 10 years the man may face if convicted of the manslaughter charge, he may have other legal proceedings ahead of him in a Wisconsin courtroom. The family of the deceased woman may elect to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver for the role he played in the fatal car accident. If evidence proves the man’s driving behavior to be negligent and a causal factor to the death, the court may award damages to the family.
