Plea deal expected in Wisconsin drunk driving accident

There are a lot of things that could lead up to an auto accident when driving, including distracted drivers and speeding. Drunk drivers also place great risk not only to the passengers in their vehicle, but to the general public. An accident that occurred in Wisconsin involving an alleged drunk driver luckily didn’t involve any other vehicles, but left the three passengers in the car with serious injuries.

The accident occurred recently in Wisconsin Rapids. Local authorities were called to the scene just before 2 a.m. The driver, a 21-year-old female, was supposedly intoxicated when her car collided into a telephone pole, injuring all three passengers in her vehicle. Injuries to one of the passengers included a skull fracture, broken ankles and other significant injuries to the face and jaw. Specific injuries of the other passengers was not reported.

The driver has several charges against her, including a DUI and causing injury while intoxicated. It is reported that a possible plea deal is in the works and should be expected to be finalized soon. As this is still an ongoing process, specifics of the plea deal have not yet been released, but the hope of the defense is most likely to avoid going to trial.

An auto accident involving drunk drivers, whether another vehicle is involved or not, can result in serious injury to those involved. The driver, while facing criminal charges, may also be facing personal injury claims from her passengers that were injured during the accident. Those injured may choose to file personal injury claims to help recover any financial damages resulting from the incident. A Wisconsin civil court could award monetary compensation that would help cover medical expenses, loss of wages and pain and suffering.
