Every time a driver accesses a Wisconsin roadway, the risk of an accident exists. Commuters rarely expect a car accident to happen, often taking for granted the danger that is assumed when traveling in a motor vehicle. While many of the accidents that do occur cause relatively minor damage, the reality is that many result in serious and even fatal injuries.
Three motor vehicles were recently involved in a rear-end collision. According to the accident report, a car driver was decelerating in preparation for a left hand turn on Highway 54 in Outagamie County when the driver in a trailing vehicle failed to stop behind her. As the SUV crashed into the woman’s car, her vehicle was pushed into oncoming traffic. Her vehicle collided head-on with a van.
Four people were injured in the accident. While most of the injuries were considered non-life threatening, one of the individuals — the 63-year-old van driver — was airlifted by helicopter to a medical facility for treatment. Reportedly, the man suffered serious and potentially fatal injuries, though no further word on his medical condition or the specifics of his injuries was provided. It is uncertain if the 17-year-old driver in the SUV will face criminal charges in connection with the accident.
The victims of the crash may elect to seek a personal injury claim for financial losses sustained as a result of the car accident. As the investigation moves forward, each injured party will have the opportunity to review the evidence gathered and assess the viability of pursuing legal action. A civil claim in a Wisconsin court will require proof that one or more of the drivers involved in the collision was negligent. If liability is established in court, claims for monetary damages will be adjudicated.
