Police say woman attempted left turn, injures 4 in car accident

The site of a recent serious accident may have been an area that is already known for car wrecks. As a result of the car accident, four people ended up in the hospital, including the driver of the vehicle that apparently caused the wreck. Wisconsin authorities are still investigating the incident.

According to police, at about 2:30 p.m., an 82-year-old woman did not yield to an oncoming vehicle while attempting to complete a left hand turn. She turned directly into the path of an oncoming SUV, and the two vehicles collided. Although road crews worked to clear the dregs of the wreck up quickly, traffic did back up for several blocks.

All four people involved in the accident — the woman who initially caused it and the three occupants of the SUV — suffered injuries. They were all transported to a local area hospital for treatment. The woman who attempted to make that left hand turn is currently still in the hospital.

One those injured in the SUV was a paraplegic. While medical bills for injuries — even minor — related to car accidents can pile up quickly, treatment for individuals who already have specialized healthcare needs might prove to be an even greater burden on top of potentially long-lasting pain and suffering. Wisconsin residents who are injured in a car accident retain the right to seek legal recourse against a driver that caused a wreck by pursuing a personal injury claim. The successful litigation of such a claim can provide crucial monetary compensation for dealing with medical bills and other expenses incurred from the accident.
