Two people are dead after what one local photojournalist called the most awful wreck he’d ever witnessed. A speeding driver appears to be what initially caused the fatal car accident. Wisconsin authorities have also reported that the initial collision led to a chain reaction of accidents.
On July 10, a 52-year-old woman and her 45-year-old passenger began to proceed through an intersection. The traffic light had already turned green, giving them the right of way. However, before they could safely proceed, police and eyewitnesses say an SUV ran a red light and sped into the intersection, striking the vehicle.
Multiple witnesses agreed that the SUV was traveling roughly 70 mph. A photojournalist happened to be on the scene as the wreck occurred, and the driver of the SUV apparently claimed that her brakes weren’t functioning while she simultaneously pumped her gas pedal. The SUVs driver and the drivers of two other vehicles that were involved in the accident were transported to a local hospital for injuries that were suffered in the accident.
Sadly, the two women in the vehicle that was initially struck did not make it. Though she is still in the hospital, the driver of the SUV that apparently caused the car accident has been charged with homicide for the negligent operation of her vehicle and is in Wisconsin police custody. The aftermath of a loved one’s death can impose exceptional financial burdens on their family, and the successful litigation of a wrongful death claim can enable them to more adequately abate those losses during a sensitive time of grieving. Though criminal charges are not imperative for the victims’ families to be able to file a wrongful death claim on their behalf, any evidence used in connection with those charges may also be enormously helpful for the successful litigation of such a claim.
