Medical malpractice allegedly leads to amputations

Patients in Wisconsin must have a high degree of trust in regard to their medical care providers and medical treatment. Because the average patient has not had the years of medical training that most doctors and nurses have, they must trust that these providers will adequately care for them in times of need. One woman has recently filed a medical malpractice lawsuit alleging that negligence on the part of her medical care providers resulted in multiple amputations.

The now 49-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital in 2004 to receive a bone marrow transplant. She claims that doctors failed to administer proper vaccinations after the transplant. As a result, she says she developed an infection called pneumococcal sepsis.

In the years following the infection, the woman has reportedly undergone multiple amputations, resulting in the loss of fingers, toes and parts of her feet. Unfortunately, she may lose what remains of her feet as a result of wounds that are unable to heal. The mother of three says that the amputations have had a drastic impact on her life. City of Hope, the hospital that treated the woman, has recently issued a statement declining to comment on the case.

While people make mistakes in their professional lives, an oversight involving a missed vaccination could have a devastating impact on a person’s life. Many victims of medical malpractice in Wisconsin have chosen to seek legal recourse in a civil court, just as this woman has done. By doing so, they could receive relief from medical bills and loss of wages while sending a message regarding the potential consequences of negligence in the medical setting.
