The Fourth of July is a time of celebration for the vast majority of Americans. While some celebrate with alcohol, it is just as important that drivers ensure they are safe to drive on the holidays as it is any other day. Unfortunately, Wisconsin police say that one driver was drunk when he caused an accident that resulted in a fatality.
Reports indicate that the accident happened during the early morning hours on a day over the holiday weekend. A witness says that she encountered a vehicle that was speeding. Soon after, she claims, the driver lost control, crashing into a tree.
Although the witness says that the condition of the wrecked vehicle led her to believe that no one survived the accident, she and other witnesses were able to help one occupant escape from the wreckage. Unfortunately, a 32-year-old male passenger died. Police are now saying that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision. He has since been arrested and faces charges related to homicide while operating under the influence.
Holidays should be a time of celebration, but one family will be left with the memory of a tragic, likely preventable accident that took the life of their loved one.
