Alcohol use suspected in fatal Wisconsin car accident

There are many actions that a driver can take that can increase his or her chances of causing an accident. For example, alcohol consumption has been a contributing factor in many fatal car accidents in Wisconsin over the years despite efforts to educate drivers of the potential consequences of driving under the influence. Police have recently accused a driver of drinking and driving after a rollover accident took the life of a teenager.

Rescue workers responded to the crash just before 2:30 a.m. one morning in January. According to preliminary investigations, a car carrying four people exited the roadway and entered a ditched. As a result, the vehicle flipped.

One passenger, an 18-year-old, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. The other three occupants were transported to the hospital, but all are expected to survive. Police say that the 20-year-old driver was arrested, suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol while underage. It is unclear if additional charges are expected; however, the investigation into the accident continues.

A car accident such as this can have a devastating impact on surviving family members. While they cope with their grief, they must also manage the financial consequences of their loss, including funeral expenses. Those who have lost a loved one in Wisconsin due to another’s negligence have the option of filing a civil lawsuit against the driver believed to have caused the accident. If claims of negligence can be proved, the court could order the driver pay damages that would help the family cope with the financial consequences of their loss.
