Dog attack on family causes serious personal injury

Many victims of dog attacks not only suffer physical injuries but emotional scars as well. People may find themselves with a fear of animals for years to come. Victims may also be responsible for expensive treatment and therapy for their injuries. Fortunately for dog bite victims in Wisconsin, personal injury attorneys can explain litigation options against the animal’s owner for potential compensation. Recently in a nearby state, a family’s life was turned upside down after two children suffered a brutal dog attack.

The attack occurred on a quiet Sunday afternoon as a grandmother watched her two grandchildren play on their trampoline. She reported that she noticed the dog, which appeared to be a pit bull breed, when her older grandchild began running and screaming that the dog was near. Before the woman could intervene, the dog attacked the boy and injured his arm. Her younger 2-year-old granddaughter left the trampoline in fear when the dog focused its attack on her.

According to the grandmother, the attack persisted for approximately 20 minutes until she received help to constrain the dog. She and the grandson were treated for their injuries and are reported to be in stable condition. Unfortunately, the girl suffered a severe head trauma as a result of the attack and is expected to need long-term treatment. Authorities stated that the dog has been reported in the past, and it has been quarantined for several days until its fate is decided. Initial investigation indicates that the dog was accidentally released from its owner’s residence prior to the attack.

Clearly, the injuries suffered by the grandmother and both her grandchildren will result in expensive medical bills for necessary treatment of their injuries. In similar circumstances, personal injury attorneys in Wisconsin can advise a family of their rights to seek compensation from a dog’s owner. Compensation will not reverse any injuries or prevent emotional trauma, but it may help to reduce a family’s financial stress.
