Semi-trucks are typically dangerous vehicles, and the reasons are obvious. When a driver ends up in a car accident with a semi-truck, serious injuries or death is typically the tragic result. This was the case in a recent crash where a 61-year-old Wisconsin man was killed in a collision with a semi-truck.
According to authorities, a previous car crash backed up traffic on the Interstate. A man was in the middle of heavy traffic at around 10:30 p.m. when the semi smashed into the back of his car. The car driver was pronounced dead at the accident scene. He previously worked many years as a police chief in Wisconsin, and those who knew him expressed their gratitude to his service and cherished his memories.
Reportedly, the man’s car was not the only vehicle that was struck. The semi also crashed into several other vehicles, leaving two more people injured. The specific details of their injuries were not indicated, and it was not reported if they were hospitalized. The accident is being investigated, and authorities suspect that truck driver fatigue may have been a causal factor in the tragedy.
The fatal car accident has left one man dead, two people injured and family and friends’ grief stricken. In regards to this incident, the family of the deceased man may have legal recourse under Wisconsin law in the form of a wrongful death claim against the semi-truck driver and the driver’s employer. The two that were injured retain the right to file personal injury claims against the same parties for lost wages, medical costs and pain and suffering. If it is determined that a wrongful death or injury was brought forth by the negligence of the driver, monetary compensation is typically awarded.
