Accidents sometimes happen before an inattentive driver even knows that there is a potential danger in the area. Because there could be a pedestrian in a crosswalk or a small child chasing a ball, drivers in Wisconsin must remain vigilant at all times in order to protect their personal safety as well as the safety of others in the vicinity. Unfortunately, a recent car accident has left one man in the hospital and another in jail.
The accident happened one evening in late November. Police claim that they found the 32-year-old victim in the road. He was reportedly suffering from injuries resulting from being struck by a vehicle.
Based on information provided by witnesses, police were able to identify the driver they believe was responsible. The 26-year-old man remains in police custody. He now faces criminal charges as a result of the accident, but the investigation into the incident is ongoing. Police are working to discover if drugs or alcohol may have been a contributing factor.
Severe injuries suffered when a pedestrian is struck by a motor vehicle often require extensive medical treatment and a long period of recovery. Financial insecurity created by medical bills is often increased as a result of lost wages when car accident victims miss work as they recover. For relief for some of these burdens, many Wisconsin victims file a personal injury lawsuit in a civil court. If negligence can be proved, victims — as well as family members in some circumstances — could receive an award of damages allowing them to focus on their physical and emotional recovery.
