Are digital billboards a hazard for drivers?

Drivers have many distractions to deal with then they’re on the road. These include everything from passengers in the vehicle to cellphones. However, some people are shocked to think about how billboards on the side of the road might impact drivers’ ability to operate the vehicle safely. This creates a hazard for everyone on the road.

Studies have looked in to precisely how much of an impact digital billboards have on drivers. While there isn’t any indication of just how much digital ads on the side of the road claim a driver’s attention, it is known that they do cause drivers to look away from the roadway more often than when those billboards aren’t present.

Researchers looked at video footage of drivers who were approaching digital billboards. Drivers who were approaching these electronic billboards looked away from the road for a significant time. One interesting thing that researchers discovered was that drivers paid more attention to the billboards as they changed ads than when the ads were stable.

While some billboards show valuable information rather than simply advertising, drivers shouldn’t ever fall victim to becoming so focused on the billboards that they neglect their driving duties. Anyone who’s struck by a distracted driver may opt to pursue a claim for compensation. This can help them recover the money they need for things like medical care, as well as to help cover the wages they aren’t able to earn because they have to take time off work while they heal. An experienced attorney can help you seek the compensation you need and deserve.
